The look of shock remained on Jim Lehman’s face after his minivan was hit head-on in a three-car crash in Zeeland Township early Wednesday night, Aug. 20 — and so did the blood.
Dried blood streaked his forehead, but Lehman said he felt OK.
“I could see her coming, and she just kept coming,” he said as he stood yards from where the woman driving the car that smashed into his van had just been pulled by fire crews from her vehicle.
One woman was pinned inside her vehicle after the crash on Adams Street near 72nd Avenue in Zeeland Township around 6 p.m. when Zeeland Township Fire Department crews pulled her from the vehicle.
Steve and Christine Thomas, of Burnips, who were also involved in the crash, said they were were driving behind Lehman’s vehicle in their Jeep and slammed on the brakes when they saw the woman veer into their lane from the eastbound lane.
“It just happened so fast,” Christine Thomas said as she watched rescue crews lift the woman into the back of an ambulance. “I can’t believe we made it through it.”
Lehman, of Swanton, Ohio, said he was being taken to the hospital for treatment. The Thomases said they were not injured.
The woman’s identity, her condition or what hospital she was taken to were not immediately available from Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office deputies on the scene.
