Ferris State softball player and Zeeland native Katie Kraai

Zeeland, MI — Ferris State University softball player and Zeeland native Katie Kraai is the recipient of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Commissioner’s Award for Academic and Athletes Excellence in her sport.

Kraai, who played third base, was instrumental in Ferris State posting a fifth-place tying performance at the 2008 NCAA Division II Championships in Houston in May

Before the conclusion of the 2008 campaign, Kraai was bestowed with the school’s 22nd annual Helen Bennett Award as the Bulldogs’ outstanding female student-athlete.

The two-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete also earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV College Division Softball First-Team kudos. She was twice named to the NCAA-II Great Lakes Regional All-Tournament Team.
