Holland, MI —

Parker Bussies scored one goal and had one assist for the Zeeland West boys soccer team in a 3-2 loss at Grand Rapids West Catholic.

Tyler McKellar had the other goal for the Dux (0-1).

Holland, MI —

Kevin McConnell scored three goals to lead the Zeeland East boys soccer team to a 4-1 win over visiting Wayland Monday in nonconference play.
Andrew DeWitt totaled three assists for the Chix, while Jake Kamstra added a goal.

Former Zeeland volleyball standout reigns on the beach

Lori Armstrong and Carin Avery are two of the oldest women on the Midwest Volleyball Professionals Association beach volleyball tour.
But in the sand, experience and guile oftentimes overshadow athleticism and aggressiveness, as Armstrong and Avery displayed throughout the summer.
Armstrong, 31 and pregnant with her second child, and Avery, 34, continued to prove themselves among the top teams on the tour, with Armstrong, of Zeeland, emerging as the most successful women on the beach in 2008.

Eleanor Seavey’s cat Sheba keeps a close watch on the front door of On Silver Shores jewelry and gift shop in downtown Zeeland.
Sheba watches the customers come and go and has been known to befriend a dog from time to time.
“She likes dogs, but she has a typical cat reaction. She’s wary of them,” Seavey said. “There are some dogs that go past here in the afternoon when we are still open and she will touch noses with them. She’s pretty calm about dogs.”

Zeeland West football team will play nine-game schedule in 2008

Zeeland, MI —

The Zeeland West football team will play a full, nine-game schedule this fall.

 

The Dux have filled an open date with an Aug. 28 home game against Inkster, Zeeland West athletic director Mark Werley said.
