Kay Overweg, 79, of Zeeland, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2009, at her home.
Kay was born August 20, 1929 in Gaines Twp. to Raymond and Thressa Bruggink. She married Marvin Poppema and lived in Zeeland, where they raised their family as members of Haven Christian Reformed Church. After Marvin’s death in 1993, Kay married Cornie Overweg in 1996 and became a member of North Street Christian Reformed Church.
She is survived by her children and grandchildren, Mary and Bruce De Maagd, Sharon and Roger Van Noord, Teresa and Griff Degolier, Kathy Boes, Melissa and John Easdon; David DeMaagd, Kurt and Stephanie DeMaagd, Ryan and Erin DeMaagd, Chris and Michelle Van Noord, Kevin and Tomieka Van Noord, Laura VanNoord-Meiste, Leslie Van Noord, Matthew Boes, Samantha Brown, and Jack Easdon; as well as several great-grandchildren; stepchildren and grandchildren, Ron and Jane Riemersma, Allen and Merry Brummel, Jack and Marcia Geerlings, Brian and Diane Riemersma, Don and Kathy Hicks, and Gary Overweg; Paul and Michelle Marentette, Eric and Jody Salas, Jeffre and Kristi Behm, Ben and Susan Dozeman, Kurt Brummel, John and Marie Geerlings, Bill Geerlings, Jeff and Kristin Geerlings, Jessica Geerlings, and Chris, Brandon, and Lindsey Riemersma, Eric and Melissa Rodriguez, and Kyle Hicks; as well as many great- grandchildren; her siblings, Arlene Bruggink, Shirley Bruggink, Helena and Roger Brinks, Harriet and Vern Karsten; as well as many sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2009 at North Street Christian Reformed Church, 20 E. Main Avenue. The Rev. John Klompien will officiate. Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland. Burial will be in Zeeland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
