Laura Belle Visser (Newcomb) passed away Monday, June 15, 2009.  

She was born in Hammond, Indiana on July 27, 1923.  She  graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and she taught English and Home Economics at Grand Rapids Christian High School.  Later in life she was a substitute teacher and taught adult education classes.  Laura was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Zeeland.  She enjoyed music, literature, traveling and was a compassionate and dedicated volunteer for many causes.  

Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Vissser.  Surviving are her four children, Virginia and Alan Strauss of Oakton, VA, Randolph and Janis Visser of Gray, ME, David and Ruth Visser of Zeeland, Martin and Kimberly Visser of Grand Haven; 11 grandchildren, Jacob, Samuel and Nicholas Strauss, Dana and Alyson Visser Eric, Cory and Samantha Visser, Sarah, Lauren and Cole Visser; brother, Robert Newcomb of Dayton, OH;  sisters-in-law, Emma and Louis Van Noord of Hudsonville, Sylvia Ter Haar of Hudsonville, Martha Visser of Holland, and Celia Newcomb of Indiana.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Reformed Church, 15 South Church St., Zeeland, with Pastor Paul Bakker officiating.  Visiting hours will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at  Yntema Funeral Home, 251 South State St., Zeeland.  Burial will be in Zeeland Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.  An online registry is available at www.yntemafh.com.
