Taylor DeRoo scored a career-high 27 points to the lead Dutch to the road win, a 68-58 decision over Muskegon Mona Shores.

“He was tough tonight, he had it all going,” Holland coach Steve Windemuller said. “He was taking the ball to the basket, he had pullups, he had good takes. That was probably the best part of it. Going up to Mona ... is a tough place to play.”

Trent Windemuller added nine points, including a key 3-pointer to give the Dutch (8-5 overall, 5-2 O-K Black) a seven-point lead with one minute to go, Steve Windemuller said.
Morris Sallis and Josh Weatherspoon each had eight points for Holland.

Luke Paniei had 17 points to lead Mona Shores (2-9, 1-6).

Hudsonville Unity Christian 66, Zeeland West 56, OT: The Dux dropped the matchup of second-place teams in the O-K Green Conference and fell two games behind league-leading Holland Christian.

It was Zeeland West’s second consecutive loss after a nine-game win streak. The Dux, ranked fourth in Class B, dropped to 10-3 overall and 6-3 in conference play.

Unity Christian (8-5 overall, 7-2 O-K Green) outscored Zeeland West 11-1 during the four-minute overtime period. The Crusaders rallied to tie the score at the end of regulation with a 20-14 effort during the fourth quarter.

Tyler Vegter’s 21 points led Unity Christian. He hit five 3-pointers.

The Dux received 17 points from guard Isaac Hernadez. He made three 3-pointers, including one with 1.3 seconds remaining in regulation, sending the game to overtime.

Zeeland East 42, Hamilton 35: Trailing by nine at the half, the Chix picked up their defense and held the Hawkeyes to just nine second-half points, including three in the fourth quarter, for the home win.

Shane Vork had 11 points and Brad Horling and Brandon Blauwkamp each had nine points to lead Zeeland East (4-9, 3-6 O-K Green).

“I’d like to think it’s a defensive contest, but we didn’t come out shooting very well,” Chix coach Mickey Cochran said. “We adjusted a little bit ... spread our defense out a little bit and got into the passing lanes, pushed their offense out a little further.

“I think that got them a little out of sync.”

Evan Mudd led Hamilton (6-7, 4-5) with 20 points, including five 3-pointers — three of which came in the first quarter.

“(Mudd) was remarkable,” Cochran said. “Whenever he was open, he drilled them.”

Black River 49, Byron Center Zion Christian 36: The River Rats got the road win led by 13 points and eight rebounds from Christian Slater to improve to 8-6 overall and 4-4 in the Alliance League.
