recreationGolf Trips
With summer starting to wind down, a lot of us start to think about what we are going to do during the winter for golf....and that usually means a road trip. Where has summer gone
I can't believe it is the July 4th weekend already.....it seems like the kids just got out of school. I guess what they say about time going faster as you get older is true. The good news is there is still a lot of time to get out and have a great time on the course. Related:
Breaking 100
This week is I want to talk about scoring. You may not realize it, but only about 10% of the people who ever try golf will ever break 100 for 18 holes. If you have golfed a lot or a little, you remember the day you first boke through that barrier and started working toward the next goal (breaking 90). It's not always a case of your ability....quite often it is a problem of focusing on the wrong things. Dandelion Festival
This weekend is the annual Dandelion Festival in Borculo, our answer to Tulip Time, only the flowers are much easier to grow and we don't have all of those tour bus problems that Holland gets. The big event is the Parade on Saturday so make sure you get to Borculo Saturday monring to see what I think is at least the 4th or 5th best parade in the Holland Zeeland area all year. Related:
Golf Season is Finally Here
It looks like the golf season is finally here...time to take the clubs and hopefully your "tuned up" short game to the course. Most of the local courses are a great bargain for the next few weeks with Spring Rates.....ours at The Pheasant is only $8 but make sure you call the course you are planning on playing ahead of time, some of them do not honor Spring rates on weekends. Wherever you decide to go, with the sun out until well past 8:00 and temperatures in the 60's, it's hard to beat Spring Golf in Michigan. Here is my tip for the week. Related:
Bump and Run Shot
Well we are finally getting close... Last weekend about 30 players stopped out to get the rust out of their game. I noticed a lot of greens being missed and a lot of people trying to chip it to the hole with a lofted club. Not normally the best idea....try this. Use a 5-7 iron, play the ball back in your stance, open up your stance with your left foot pointed more toward the target and hit down on the back of the ball with a sweeping motion...the good old bump and run. This is a real shot saver and something you need to master for spring golf. Related:
Golf
Time to pratice putting....my kids got me what I thought was a strange gift for Christmas (Putting Pool)...6 holes and golf pool balls. Turns out it is a great way to practice in the house while we wait for the snow to clears. Getting ahead of your golf partners on sharpening up your short game will keep you ahead of them on the course. I think it's time for a late winter road trip to finds a course without snow.....
