Where has summer gone

I can't believe it is the July 4th weekend already.....it seems like the kids just got out of school.  I guess what they say about time going faster as you get older is true.  The good news is there is still a lot of time to get out and have a great time on the course.

Today I want to talk a little about weight transfer.  One of the biggest swing errors I see in golfers is finishing their swing with most of their weight still on their back foot.  This is known as "the reverse C" which means your body looks like the letter C in reverse.  The result of this type of swing is usually one of two things, either a topped shot, or a very high and weak fade (slice).

Most golfers have heard the phrase "getting through the ball", which means finishing the swing with a full weight trasfer to your front foot through impact.  This transfer allows the full effect of your club head speed to impact the ball squarely and send it on a normal flight path with either a slight fade or a draw.

When you have finished a proper swing, you should be able to lift your back foot and still have good balance.  A good drill is to actually swing while standing on just your front foot, or place your back foot behind you by about a foot and swing (if you don't transfer your weight with these drills you'll fall over).  Give either one a try on the range and take your new swing out on the course.  If you stick with it, you'll be surprised at the difference it can make.

If you need some help stop by The Pheasant this weekend and I'll give you a hand.

See you on the course.
