Local Area MusicHi, I'm Amy. Ever since 8th grade I've always been intrigued with the local music scene. I help out in any way I possibly can. That being said I donated quite a bit of money to Adam's band, Beyond The Gates. In 8th grade I worked on a street team for Skindred, Non Point, and Authority Zero. Ever since I donated my first dollar to Beyond The Gates, I just jumped into their band wagon and started helping out. It started out with taking live photos for them, [which can be seen on their myspace: www.myspace.com/beyondthegatesband] to working their merch table for them, and running their myspace. I think it's great that the Sweet Bean has opened up to allowing musical artists to perform. But I think the rest of Zeeland needs to open up and be open minded about certain things. I see old abandoned buildings almost everytime I drive down through Zeeland and I just wonder, wow, that'd be such a great place to have music. Now, that all being said, because Holland actually supports the local music scene quite a bit, with, Roxies clothing store, the new House Of Nyx, Lemonjellos, and the Park Theatre, people should stop hiding in their homes and checking out these venues for new music. On Saturday May 17th, Beyond The Gates will be playing downtown at the Park Theatre at 6:30PM. -Amy. Related:

Hi Gary! I'm sorry it's taken me so long to respond back but I've been quite busy lately!
I have some pictures posted up in my gallery:

Also, thank you for your replies, Ed and Steven! :]
I think that having a summer show would be amazing!
I could probably find a bunch of people that would be willing to help out, and I've got a ton of connections to help promote it.
I've always wanted to open up my own coffee shop for local music to play in, or open a place to hang out that would also double as a music venue. But it's hard to do anything when you're only 16. But hey, maybe in a few years! :)
You can add my name to those who would like to see more venues for all types of music. I would be in favor of a concert like Steve mentioned. I think that I could even find some time to help out with it.
Thank you for realizing that all of us need to think "big" even in a smaller city.

I am huge fan of live music! -Both listening and performing. I hope this generation continues to push the envelope of live music and musicianship as previous generations of have!
I'm with Gary...A summer outdoor concert would be cool! Who can we find to sponsor it?
We'll need a field, a flat bed truck, power access, and PA and some promotion help. Myzeeland can help with promotion...Can get find others to donate their time, energy and resources?
Souke,
Get those pictures up on a gallery. I'd love to see them.
Let's talk about a local music concert in Zeeland. I'd love to see it happen.
